May 1967 - Earlier in May

There is a man turning the dirt for the garden. You can just see him through the tree to the right. Since Grampa is taking the picture, I wonder who is doing the digging.

The fence pieces that were broken last year are still broken.

This was when the garden covered the most area. When I was a teenager the area to the back left, just in front of the big cherry tree, was already turned to grass.

The area in the foreground is mostly dirt. I am pretty sure it's because my uncle was out there frequently hitting and pitching baseballs.

These photos are from my grandfather's collection of carefully labeled slides and photographs. Some include not only the exact date, but also the time of date. Grampa was a prolific photographer. The Magical Backyard is a collection of photo memories from my grandparent's (and now my aunt's) backyard.

Spend some time here; enjoy the garden or sit in the shade of the big maple tree. It's a peaceful place enjoyed now by the fourth generation of the Smith family in Bristol, Connecticut.
