May 1966 - The Unforgotten Side Yard

The side yard would not be forgotten. The chimney had not yet been built and there was a door entering directly into the living room. You can just see the tail end of an old car whizzing by on the road. Of course, they whizz by quite a bit faster in 2015, almost 50 years later.

That is THE magnolia tree. It was one of a pair. It still survives today, but it's twin has gone. The poor tree sustained quite a bit of damage in the ice storm a couple of years ago, but it has persevered.

These photos are from my grandfather's collection of carefully labeled slides and photographs. Some include not only the exact date, but also the time of date. Grampa was a prolific photographer. The Magical Backyard is a collection of photo memories from my grandparent's (and now my aunt's) backyard.

Spend some time here; enjoy the garden or sit in the shade of the big maple tree. It's a peaceful place enjoyed now by the fourth generation of the Smith family in Bristol, Connecticut.
