Family History Scrapbook Sunday - Grampa's Garden

My kids would probably be surprised to learn that I grew up gardening. House plants don't do well under my care. I figure if it's the plants or the kids, it's better to water the kids. Right?

My grandparents maintained a huge garden in the magical backyard. The flowers grew over six feet tall. The tomatoes were the sweetest I have ever tasted. They were perfect, warm from the sun, sprinkled with salt and eaten whole. You just can't buy tomatoes like that at the grocery store.

Gardening is hard work and not always fun, but I wouldn't trade a minute of the time I spent turning the dirt, planting the seeds, thinning the carrots or picking off the Japanese beetles. In fact, I miss those days learning under the expert tutelage of Bubba and Grandma. It's funny, I always thought of it as Grampa's garden, but it was equally Grandma's baby. She was just willing to let her Eddie have the credit.

Happy Sunday!
